Richard Witts is Reader in Music and Sound at Edge Hill University. He is the award-winning author of the biography of the German chanteuse Nico (Virgin Books, 1993) and a study of the music of The Velvet Underground (University of Indiana Press, 2008). Richard has presented radio programmes on music for the BBC, and contributed articles for journals and chapters for a number of music books, including the Cambridge Companion to Recorded Music (2009) and Kraftwerk – Music Non Stop (2011).
Richard interviewed Stockhausen for the BBC Radio 3 series on electronic music where the composer issued advice to young artists. This became a feature in The Independent, which was then expanded in the magazine Wire, and can now be found as Chapter 55 of the book Aural Cultures.
